Taking artistic immersion to another level, photographer Sean Hawkey photographed Peruvian mine workers with glass plate negatives using the same silver nitrate used in the mining process. The wet collodion method of photographing that Hawkey used required incredibly heavy equipment including a large format camera and over 30 pounds of glass used for plates. Each image took around 15 seconds for exposure, but the resulting images are timeless. With rich tonal qualities and intricate detail, Hawkey’s images seem to capture the true character of each subject he photographs with profound intimacy.
