Michigan-based photographer Keith McArthur, who publishes his photography under the name F8ALISM, tells stories of peculiar places and the underdogs who inhabit them.
His series “Only Child” captures the boredom and the necessity of being self-sustaining without siblings to entertain and berate you. The mindset of an only child varies vastly from those who grew up surrounded by others — in both positive and negative ways — and McArthur documents all angles flawlessly. Why does he prefer the name F8ALISM? Partially because it’s “a reference to the old adage ‘f/8 and be there’”and partially because of “a philosophy of never considering where ‘there’ is supposed to be.”
