New Book “Soviet Ghosts” by Rebecca Litchfield

July 16, 2014

British photographer Rebecca Litchfield is brave. Not that many people would take the risk to capture the tattered ruins of a strange and dangerous part of the world. Struck by the extent of abandonment in the former Soviet Union and its satellite states in the former Eastern Bloc, photographer Rebecca Litchfield sensitively and beautifully records many abandoned locations, which were once part of the Soviet Union. Including forgotten towns, factories, prisons, schools, monuments, hospitals, theatres, military complexes, asylums and death camps. Documenting sights rarely seen by Western eyes, Litchfield is intensely interested in exploring the former USSR, which she believes is an important part of our history. This book documents the strange interval caught between modernity and antiquity.
