Using the camera as a scientific tool of investigation combined with his education in biology, Anand Varma, explores what the camera can show that other mediums cannot.

His series Mindsuckers explores parasites that take over the brains of host organisms. It was his first editorial assignment and for non other than the prestigious publication National Geographic (It was also the cover story). The images are a fascinating in-depth look at the details of these creatures that the eye is incapable of seeing. Varma’s approach to photography is very scientific and it shows when looking at his lighting techniques, subjects and writings. When not shooting on assignment, Varma assists with biologists to communicate their research through photographs. He has been awarded the Young Explorer Grant from the National Geographic and was recently listed in PDN's 30.
