Lauren Withrow’s series “Slow Motion Dreams” creates a nostalgia for places you’ve never been and a heartsickness for people you’ve never met.
The images, taken in the moments of transition from day to night (or vice versa) often capture expanses of space, with one human exception. In this series there is an undeniable sense of anonymity — the subjects are turned away from their camera, and their apparent insignificance is exactly what makes them so fascinating. Lucky for us, Withrow’s love affair with the sky has produced captivating images that invoke a pleasant wistfulness for something unknown. It’s all very vague, and it’s all very beautiful. —Linnie Cole
