Jonathan Smith’s Streams delves into the stark contrast which is created by the natural world around us.
In order to fully communicate the aspects of dark and light, or rather, navy and white, he has found examples for us that are undeniably shocking in their polarities. Something about the crisp lines invokes the idea of a painting you might have seen or a building designed by your favorite architect, which makes it hard to believe that something so clean-cut and bold is created by a characteristically chaotic setting (the outdoors). Smith simplifies in a way that is both pleasing and shocking, resulting in a disparate reaction (just as the images themselves reflect disparity).
