Todd Hido is a Bay Area-based photographer known for his haunting and ethereal images of homes at night. Glowing and hazy with window lights and fog, Hido’s images transform the banality of suburban streets at night into wonder, tinged with anxiety. Using only available light, the works transcend the natural, giving the impression of some otherworldly occurrence; something familiar, yet vaguely alien. Still, it’s clear Hido remains detached from his subjects, never passing judgement, which allows the viewer to experience the images from their own perspective and become enveloped in the hazy patches of color he has become known for.
