Greetings from Mars, a series by Paris-based photographer Julien Mauve, imagines a scenario of two typical tourists visiting the surface of Mars. Exploring way people behave in national parks and in front of natural landmarks, Mauve found landscapes that mimic the arid climate of the red planet to place his subjects in. “It's interesting to observe the way we act in front of the camera,” he says “how we include ourselves in the landscapes, how those landscapes trigger the desire to affirm our presence, and how the way we take pictures exposes the vanity involved in our endless pursuit of self-definition.” Lighthearted portraits of astronauts posing with selfie-sticks and ipads alternate with dusty rose colored landscapes to create a satirical dream world that dares to someday become a reality.
