Can’t look anywhere on the internet without a kitten picture popping up? Partially responsible is Walter Chandoha, the first photographer to delve into the then-niche genre of cat portraits. You’ll likely recognize his work—iconic single-color backgrounds and glamour backlighting with cats and kittens acting, well, cute… This year Aperture has released a book of his work, which includes interviews with the artist. The book includes sketches of Chandoha’s studio arrangement and provides insight into his unique commercial success.
We've included some of his older work in black and white, though the book is filled with color portraits.
