Four Decades Documenting Social and Political Life in Mexico

Jul 20, 2017 - Sep 24, 2017Centro de la Imagen, Mexico City

Marco Antonio Cruz: Stories and Positions / 1977 - 2017 at Centro de la Imagen in Mexico City is a retrospective of the artist's career documenting Mexico as a photojournalist and reporter. In addition to photographing social life in Mexico, Cruz has collaborated with leftist publications, helped found the newspaper "La Jornada," directed the photographic agency Imagenlatina and is currently in charge of a photographic edition called Weekly Process.

The exhibition, spanning two floors of Centro de la Imagen, provides a broad spectrum of his work from more narrative photojournalistic stories to meandering snapshots of life in Mexico City and beyond. Chronicling the social and political life of Mexico in a not too distant past, the photographs reveal the weight of its citizens hopes and despair, feelings that are still very present today.
