Examining the Struggle Between Cultural Tradition and Environmental Disaster

On Thursday, October 6, Book and Job Gallery is presenting El Muqui, a solo show from Paccarik Orué. Named after a trickster from local folklore that is simultaneously revered and feared by the inhabitants of the Peruvian city Cerro de Pasco, El Muqui is a celebration of the culture of this community of 70,000 people, where rich tradition and environmental disaster struggle to coexist.

Paccarik Orué was born and raised in Lima, Peru and resides in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he earned a BFA from the Academy of Art University
