A while back, Pantone determined "opaque couché" to be the world's ugliest color through a survey of Australian smokers. Pantone 448C will be used as a packaging color to discourage people from buying cigarettes. We felt bad for this color and went looking for its redeeming qualities.
Sure enough, Format Magazine had collected some arresting (and eerie) images by world-class photographers, all of which share shades of Pantone 448C. Let's change the unkind "ugly" label to world's most mysterious color, shall we? Ugly is in the eye of the beholder.
