Earache, organized by Bay Area curator Jordan Stein is a photographic exhibition about discomfort, balance, and language. Works on view animate a breakdown between body systems responsible for maintaining stability. The curator was partly inspired by Tara Jepsen’s 2017 novel, Like a Dog--a young skateboarder's story of family relationships, intimacy, and risk. The show includes 50 photographs--from modern and contemporary artists to 19th-century photographers. For nearly 40 years, Fraenkel Gallery has presented hundreds of exhibitions exploring photography and its relation to other arts.
