Culturally and socially nontraditional roles documented in Anjali Bhargava's series

May 18, 2017

To Brooklyn-based portrait photographer, Anjali Bhargava, photography is more than just simple portraits.

Bhargava likes to empower her subjects and capture unguarded moments that communicate a feeling. In her “UnSuitable Girls” series, the photographer captures South Asian girls who made choices to step outside socially accepted norms. The girls in these portraits are living out a lifestyle that is not traditionally accepted and this rebellious youth is defining their own rules and standards. You can see Bhargava’s portfolio and other projects here.
