“County Fair” by Greg Miller
Photographer Greg Miller uses an 8x10” camera to focus on relationships at carnivals around the country in County Fair.
Miller’s series unfolds as a drama, choosing to investigate the way people are interacting at the fair rather than pay attention to the carnival attractions themselves. It becomes hard to tell what is unfolding before the camera when looking through the photographs; there is certainly a feeling of melancholy amongst the subjects. The large format camera captures moments that leave a sense of reality on pause – while the fair will eventually pack up and move on, these photos convey a narrative that may never conclude.
