Charles Peterson’s images Grunge, which depict the subgenre of alternative rock which emerged in the late 80s, are shockingly accurate portrayals of a timeframe characterized by sludgy guitar sounds and thrift store finds.

31 photographs of live performances and grainy portraits — complete with mid-dives into crowds, cigarettes, and Sub Pop imagery — are a raw and satisfactory group of pictures that do the Seattle sound right. You might even notice a few legends in the prime, which serves as a reminder of the dirty-haired icons who are no longer among us.
