Carly Ries’s collection of photos entitled “I’ll be your mirror” glow with hazy light and human authenticity.

Ries’, who studied at Hampshire College and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, is perhaps best known for her Breast Cancer Portraits, a soulful and candid black-and-white series displaying women struggling with or survivors of breast cancer. But this particular series strays from the concrete and attempts to photograph a concept rather than a specific idea. In the middle of the photo series is a Virginia Woolf quote from The Waves that serves as Ries’ artistic statement. “Each sight is an arabesque to illustrate some hazard and marvel of intimacy.”
