AnaHell is a Spanish photographer with a passion for the absurd and surreal. She transforms the human body into cute, large headed creatures with freaky contours by drawing expressions on the backs of her models, bending them in half, and clothing them.
AnaHell’s statement on the project says, “Secret Friends is an ongoing project that aims to poke fun at everyday life by quite literally bending reality and creating a new dimension in the midst of ordinary situations. This photo series takes place all around the world, playing with clichés, documenting the cities and places that people live in. Secret Friends mixes a paracosm with documentary photography to create images that have a strong duality of the real and the surreal.”
She does similar visual experiments with contortion and hair in her other projects, the result often as unsettling as Secret Friends. The series My Little Phony for example, in which her images of the human form somehow resemble that of a horse.
