James Senzer is a New York-based photographer whose recent body of work, American Waste, is concerned with the disposable nature of American society. Combining both black and white and color large format photographs with scans of found objects and images, the diverse work examines the notion of discarded identity in the American landscape. Soft light and color add a layer of delicateness to otherwise rough and grimy, yet all the while familiar, subject matter. Senzer’s work calls into question the permanence of certain aspects of American culture. The work, he says “encourages the viewer to contemplate the life and role of an identity after it has been discarded.”
