Alex Nelson’s series “From Here on Out” turns the lens inward and examines a changing family in the wake of her parent’s divorce.

Nelson focuses specifically on “how the divorce has given way to shifts in my family members' established roles and interpersonal dynamics” and she explains that “at once personally empathic and formally reflective, the photographs intimate tensions to unearth connections.” A three-part series beginning in 2009, Nelson leaves no rock unturned in her investigation of her morphing family and the invisible ties being formed and cut between them.
