José Parlá, the Cuban-born, NYC-based painter and sculpture artist who has been one of the leading post-graffiti artists working in the world today, recently took part in a residency in Istanbul, Turkey at Istanbul'74. The residency culminated in Parlá's first exhibition in Istanbul, which consisted of a new body of works on paper, paintings, sculptures and ceramics. As Parlá's work constantly explores the use of lettering, text and calligraphy, the bulk of the show and this new documentary show how the artist was influenced by the Turkish culture and some of the "masterful calligraphers in world history."
