As many of our readers know, we are big fans of the simple complexity of black & white artworks. We dedicated our entire 25th anniversary experience in Miami during Basel Week in 2019 to a 170+ black and white drawing show, Juxtapoz at 25: In Black & White. We love the flexibility and the originality an artist can bring to the format.

Richard Heller Gallery in Los Angeles has taken a look at the black and white format and expanded it to their new group show, Black & White vs Color, featuring a selection of artists from around the world. "The basic idea was simple, to juxtapose color works with black and white works," Richard Heller said in a statement. "I also wanted to include works by artists who had never exhibited at the gallery and, in some cases, works by artists who had never exhibited in the US."

The collection brings together an eclectic and varied group from the contemporary art world; from Mike Kelley and David Shrigley to emerging talents we ourselves are excited about in Coady Brown and Anna Weyant. In this juxtaposition between color and black/white works, it captures a collective mood, how everyone's experiences over the last few months is varied and different, and yet, just that: collective
