If you were to make a list of the most iconic artists we have seen grow over the course of the last 25 years, James Jean is on top of the list. From his legendary comic book career to his now substantial painting practice, the 3x Juxtapoz cover artist (as well as face of the co-curated with Takashi Murakami Juxtapoz x Superflat museum show), Jean has become an international name. His newest foray into the contemporary art world is a museum show, Eternal Journey, that opened at the Lotte Museum of Art in Seoul today and will be on view through September 1, 2019.

With his iconography and almost mythical subject matter, Jean has a rightful place in the pantheon of a new generation of artists that helped expand the meaning of what contemporary art is. His popularity in comics translated into a career as a painter, and these paintings are beginning to be their own language.

From the museum: "As an Asian-American, Jean has consistently explored the dual nature of his identity through his works, a quest consummated in the visual narrative of the eternal wanderer fluctuating between the agony and ecstasy of flirting with, yet never fully belonging to, his past or his present as experienced through the lens of Eastern and Western culture. We hope that this exhibition will provide viewers with a unique opportunity to experience the transformative power of James Jean’s marvelous canvas that combines the intimacy of the innermost self with the palpable challenges of the world around us."
