Suffocation with a Pillow

The watercolor and graphite portraits of Colombian artist Johan Barrios grip us with their solemnity. He works in greyscale, reproducing the subtle anatomy of his subjects.

Some of Barrios' pieces are as much an exercise in reproducing textiles, presenting the folds of fabric and pillows. At times his subjects’ faces disappear, through a mark of watercolor or the positions of their bodies.
