New York based artist Robin F Williams is showing a new selection of work at P.P.O.W Gallery this month. The show, titled Your Good Taste Is Showing, features a series of portraits of women in unexpected, awkward, and uncomfortable poses, humorously exploring the absurdity of the ways in which woman are told how to act and expected to conform to impossible standards.

For this exhibition Williams turned to vintage ads, which drew on representational painting as a common aesthetic, a notion that fascinated her, and which depicted women as objects for desire. Williams subverted the portraits of sexualized women being used to sell a range of products, from cigarettes to shampoo, placing them in absurd contexts, and exploring the way in which women struggle to maintain their identity against the impossible standards set for them by society.
