Peter Chan aka @PixelPChan is currently having a solo show at Giant Robot galler/store in LA. The body of work titled Simple Things consists of street scenes and urban still lifes captured through his own filter.

Working as a visual development artist in the feature animation industry for the past 10 years, his works are mostly based on a studio movie concept. About 4 years ago, LA-based artist decided to work on his own art which eventually lead to this show. Without a clear concept of the works, Chan ended up exploring everyday themes, objects he is collecting, freeway scene of daily commute and familiar people. These experiments resulted in simple visual snapshots of his life done in gouache on paper. Using virtually no outlines, the pieces are composed from colorful patches that result in rich, atmospheric images. Strongly relying on color and light as the key elements, the pieces are often balancing between abstraction and representational painting, giving the mundane motifs just the right amount of artistic touch. —Sasha Bogojev
