Nyoman Masriadi opens a new exhibition at Paul Kasmin Gallery with samurais, cops and other tough-guy archetypes in sometimes comical situations. These paintings will stop you in your tracks.

For his second solo show at the gallery, Masriadi will feature paintings that, according to the gallery, "depict superhuman figures whose narratives, while rooted in Indonesian cultural history, offer witty and often biting social commentary on contemporary life and global pop culture." Masriadi's satirical, cartoonish style is bombastic and riveting, pulling viewers in quickly to reveal a critical lens on societal symbolism.
