Nicolas "EVER" Romero Explores His Relationship with Objects in "Empathy/a"

Jun 09, 2018 - Jul 06, 2018The Diogenes Club, Los Angeles

The Diogenes Club in Los Angeles opens its summer exhibitions with a solo show of new work by Nicolas Romero, the Argentine street artist also known as "Ever" to most of our readers.

Romero's latest body of work, entitled Empathy/a, addresses the relationships we have with objects. The show is composed of contemporary allegorical works, which represent our perceptions of things beyond their mere use or symbolism. Here we see the projection of our own feelings onto objects which, though inert, reveal internal aspects of ourselves. In this case the artworks are based on self-referential elements that recall the development of the artist's own personal connections; from the relation he has with his mother, to the one he has with even the most artificial elements like internet. These pieces are a humble invitation to put ourselves in the place of the other, in order to determine what Empathy is really about.
