Mike Lee's Rebound at Giant Robot 2 introduces the artist's newest monochrome acrylic works in various sizes and is mostly abstract figurative. Based on soft lines, round shapes and smooth gradients, Lee has been creating everything from portraiture to perspective-based works depicting spaces.
The current body of work is focused on love, giving form to the feelings of ambiguity, reliance, longing, and hope. Inspired by personal experiences this past year, the images reflect the uncertainty and range of other familiar emotions experienced in daily life. These are represented through harmonious compositions of multiple characters interacting with each other, as well as clever use of light and shadow to accent or obscure certain features. This masterful use of gradients and countless shades of grey creates a certain ambiance around his delicate characters. —Sasha Bogojev
