Mikael B explores a "Reality Shift" @ Gregorio Escalante Gallery, Los Angeles

Jul 15, 2017 - Aug 20, 2017Gregorio Escalante Gallery, Los Angeles

We all have dreams, and for many artists, the quest to realize them is how they are defined. Who do we become when those dreams become reality? Mikael B explores this question in Reality Shift, a bold new body of work opening at Gregorio Escalante Gallery on July 15, featuring a style we haven't seen from him, with a new color palette of somber tones; rich browns, dark blues, and neutral grays contrasting with vivid neons and bold geometric shapes. Mikael built a veritable street art empire in Denmark before moving to Southern California, the world that initially inspired him to become an artist. For most of his life, he longed to live in Los Angeles, and now he's been here for several years, crushing walls, joining group shows and building an American collector base. This is Mikael's first solo show after a massive sold-out exhibit in Copenhagen, and the artist has already started his gallery takeover, completing an impressive mural for the gallery's north wall back in April. —Juxtapoz
