We are constantly looking around London for new galleries to pay attention to, and our friends at PUBLIC Gallery have been presenting good shows and created a residency program with a solid list of emerging talent. This month, the gallery is presenting Live a Little, the debut UK solo exhibition of French artist Coline Marotta. The exhibition presents a new series of paintings and drawings produced during her residency with the gallery.

Like some of our favorite painters of the moment (Grace Weaver, Rebecca Ness, Eleanor Swordy), Marotta creates narrative based works that are centered arould daily activities, almost appearing to be in a state of melancholy or pensive thought. The gallery calls it "light melancholy," and Marotta's color choices and almost hazy perspective enhances the feeling, a solemness that is still beautiful and special that needs to be captured.

Coline Marotta’s solo exhibition Live a Little is on view at PUBLIC Gallery October 1st through the 26th, 2019.
