If you’re missing the soft crunch of sweet-smelling earth beneath your boots while tramping through a canopy of trees to glimpse a slice of blue ocean, maybe it’s time to recall a beautiful show from 2018 at Johansson Projects in Oakland called Into the Blue by Matthew F Fisher.  The ink drawings and acrylic works of crashing waves, sunrises, sunsets, moonlit skies and coastlines now feel almost romantic, attractions from some faraway world. Today we revisit the works, small drawings arranged like portal gems in the gallery, because they remind us of the freedom we hope is around the bend in this trail.

Matthew F Fisher was in our Juxtapoz at 25: In Black & White show in Miami last year.
