Lux Aurea, Latin for 'Golden Light', features Giorgiko's work in an international debut directly inspired by Dutch painting tradition, particularly the 17th Century Golden Age. Setting up mysterious, eerie landscapes and dressing their signature anachronistic characters in historic outfits, Giorgiko regularly mixes archetypal classical visuals with urban culture elements. Graffiti in the background and fashion items, such as baseball caps, blend seamlessly into an authentic atmosphere of old masterpieces, creating a timeless setting that connects the now and past through the real and surreal.

The twelve new oil paintings, which will be presented in The Garage's 16th Century carriage house space in Amsterdam, share the recurring motif of a mysterious light source. Forming schoolbook examples of chiaroscuro imagery, these ambiguous, glowing objects represent illuminating viewpoints that kindle a tiny warmth in the cold environments they inhabit. Enwrapping their surroundings with a distinctive and colorful shine, these found, manufactured and bestowed items symbolize how our knowledge and perception determines our experience with reality.

About Giorgiko
Born out of a collaborative experiment between Trisha and Darren Inouye in 2012, the mystical Giorgiko universe provides sanctuary to lost boys and wayfaring girls and explores stories of their wanderings and dreams of being found again. Giorgiko's work combines Trisha's minimal character expressions with Darren's classical painting, melding two styles into figurative illustrations of endearing characters within urban and natural environments. Influences of urban culture, fantasy, and classical art are evident in their body of work.
