Massey Klein Gallery is pleased to announce, Daydreamers, a solo exhibition of new works by Tony Toscani. The exhibition will be on view from September 6th through October 13th, with an opening reception on Friday, September 6th, from 6-8pm. This is the artist's first solo show with the gallery.

Toscani's paintings capture the zeitgeist of the millennial generation. In his latest body of work, Daydreamers, Toscani continues to capture the contemporary condition. Daydreamers features a collection of new paintings and drawings that deepen the artist’s engagement with his figures who grapple with social anxiety, disillusionment, boredom, and vanity. His work continues to sensitively express mortality and spirituality while poetically portraying scenes of everyday life.

Each figure and moment is as recognizable as they are poignant. Portraits of weary and disenchanted individuals caught during mundane, pedestrian moments, checking one’s phone, or staring at a screen, reveal the isolating tendencies associated with technology. Melancholic expressions saturate the compositions in the most sensitive and alluring ways. Lumbering giants with pin heads take selfies or slump at tables while sipping coffee. While it remains unclear what the figure may be thinking, Toscani paints moments that we can all relate to and identify with; a portrait of society.
