On Saturday, August 19, downtown Los Angeles’ Corey Helford Gallery (CHG) will premiere the new body of work and fourth solo exhibition from Southern California-based artist Brandi Milne. Titled “Once Upon a Quiet Kingdom," the new collection will be on display in Gallery 1.
Self-taught and emotionally driven, Brandi Milne's work speaks of love, loss, pain and heartbreak underneath a beautiful candy-coated surface. Using elements as language from her child's mind, Milne creates a unique surreal world that is undeniably hers.
In her show statement, Milne quotes writer Katherine Henson, “Having a soft heart in a cruel world is courage, not weakness,” adding, “This new body of work is an examination of the world around me, as well as the world within me. Specifically, the discovery that as life and all its uncertainty, pain, and disappointments unfold around me, I have within myself the capability to keep safe my soft heart and cherish and nurture the beauty at its core. These new works are me trusting my own voice and allowing my true self to be seen. My strengths and my weaknesses. After three years of hard work, I feel extremely proud and empowered to present ‘Once Upon a Quiet Kingdom’ with the Corey Helford Gallery.”
The opening reception for “Once Upon a Quiet Kingdom" will be hosted Saturday, August 19 from 7-11pm in Gallery 1 at Corey Helford Gallery.. The reception is open to the public and on view through September 16.
