If there was ever a year to really find yourself, 2020 has been the year. In various stages and through epic world events and social changes, this has been the year to find out what means the most to you. Whether through personal enlightenment, stress, social activism, isolation or whatever or wherever you found yourself during the first six months of the year, you will never forget it. In this vein, Hashimoto Contemporary is pleased to present Somebody, a figurative group exhibition curated by Dasha Matsuura. Each of the eleven artists featured explores abstraction and stylization of the human form, depicting the physical and emotional within their subjects.
Many of the works in the show speak of the artist's representations of self and self-identity, and even through the figurative elements of the works, there is abstractions and metaphors. As the galley notes, "Utilizing their work to paint the reality they see or would like to see, the artists affirm and underscore the importance of representation or reflection of one’s self in art. Painting is used as a means to record the influential and everyday, to allow reverence that you are someone worth documenting. That you are Somebody."

Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, there will be no opening reception for the exhibition, and the gallery will be by appointment only. An Instagram live walkthrough of the show is scheduled for Saturday, July 11th at 4pm Pacific on the Hashimoto Contemporary Instagram.
