Opening: ART ALLIANCE: THE PROVOCATEURS, Chicago
For the past few weeks, we have been gong into the vaults to show you some of the history of the artists that were partcipating in "Art Alliance: The Provocateurs" that is happening through August 3 in Chicago. Today, we have shots from yesterday's opening, along with the final looks of the four murals painted near Lollapolooza by Cleon Peterson, Shepard Fairey, Retna, and Pose.
The show itself has a great lineage, connecting the dots from a the past two generations of artists who have, for lack of a better term, stood on the outside of typical and traditional art career expectations. These artists, from Haring, to Jamie Reid, to Winston Smith, to Shepard, to Swoon, to Retna, to everyone in the show, have and had set new rules for how an art career could manifest itself. If you are in Chicago, even for the music festival, take sometime to come over to the space and see a really well-curated show that covers the history of this magazine as well.
One of the major highlights of the exhibition will be that a portion of the event proceeds will be donated to Chicago Arts Partnerships In Education (CAPE), an organization which inspires students to be passionate about their education by weaving visual and performing arts into their classroom lessons. They bring academic subjects to life through art, and partner teaching artists with Chicago Public School teachers to develop original, creative lesson plans.
