In 2000, German designer and illustrator Veit Shuetz adapted the classic MTA subway map for Brooklyn-based art and design firm Cosmic Arts Enterprises' Spring Gallery Show. His interpretation of the map, however, was something entirely unexpected. Using the subway lines as intersecting veins traveling through the throbbing high traffic areas of New York City's busiest boroughs, Shuetz cleverly transformed the MTA map into an anatomical diagram of the penile shaft and testicles. Looking at the piece now, the analogy seems so apt it's a wonder it took so long for someone to finally realize it. Good show, Shuetz, good show.
