'In my work I portray the world as I see it with all of its observable imperfections, in order to capture the intrinsic beauty of the grotesque. My process begins by hand with pen and ink illustrations which are then colored and reworked on the computer. Through illustrating the impermanence of life I try to remind the viewer that death is a natural and inevitable occurrence. As an artist I try to escape the futility of existence rather than accept it.' Lauren D'Amato
