Kara Maria received her BA and MFA from UC Berkeley, CA. Her subject matter includes small renderings of various cuts of meat painted on paper, interventions in acrylic paint on vintage handkerchiefs and large scale, pop-inspired paintings. For the latter two approaches Maria employs a brightly colored palette that serves as an inviting façade, belying the charged political critique and environmental concerns manifested in her images of nuclear reactors, military fighter planes, pornographic figures and radiation symbols. Maria lives and works in San Francisco.
