Creating erotic female portraits, Catherine Abel places her figures into stylized scenes inspired by large artistic movements. Working to combine the angular shapes of 20th century painting with modern female sexuality, Abel's portraits (whose faces almost resemble demure versions of Christian Schad's) re-insert women into the history of Modern painting.
