While Samantha Mash primarily works within the digital realm of illustration, she is influenced heavily by Byzantine frescos, Neoclassical painters, and modern Japanese animation. She is interested in the place of iconography in paintings, as well as merging her childhood interests in anime with the more traditionally centered look of high art oil painting. Due to this influence she creates her work using a limited palette, very fine line work, graphic shapes, and a painterly touch.

She uses her work to explore the thin boundary between what is eerie and what is considered beautiful, looking into the conventions of our perception and how we see beauty. Ever influenced by science and myth she continues to push these themes into her current work.
