Ayana V. Jackson's Ayana V. Jackson's Self-Portraits explore various constructions of African and African-American identities. A descendent of one of the first black families to settle in New Jersey, Jackson is intensely interested in the experience of contemporary African diasporic communities. Her photography merges technical skills rich allusions to history and art history--such as this photographic recreation of Picasso's "Les Demoiselles d'Avignon"--creating highly layered constructions of African-American identities.
