Back when Andy Warhol was working with the artists Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat in 1980s, he began to work with a young curator by the name of Donna de Salvo. She has revisited his enormous body of work ever since, currently in an enormous way in the current exhibition Andy Warhol–From A to B and Back Again, which made its debut at the Whitney Museum in late 2018. Featured in our Winter 2019 print edition (which you can read here), I spoke to her at the Whitney just prior to the NYC opening. As the show makes its way to SFMOMA, now on view through September 2, 2019, revisit our conversation with de Salvo on the makings of a massive Warhol retrospective. —Gwynned Vitello
