We recently stopped by Space 1520 for the opening of New Image’s Pop-Up Gallery, featuring works from a ton of Juxtapoz featured aritsts and friends including Date Farmers, Richard Colman, Cleon Peterson, Misha Hollenbach, David Ellis, Maya Hayuk, and more. The show closed and was open a week, but we captured a few looks of the space. Photos from the opening and more after the jump…
“New Image Art and Space 15 Twenty are pleased to announce, a one week pop-up gallery featuring New Image Art artists Misha Hollenbach, Skullphone, Date Farmers, Cat Cult, Michelle Guintu, Satterugly, Clean Peterson, Yarrow Slaps, Saner, Richard Colman, Albert Reyes, Innocnts, Luke Pelletier, Anthony Lister, Paul Wackers, Kelsey Brooks, Mariel Eplboim, John Malta, Chad Muska, David Ellis, Pat Ngoho, Luke Taaffe, Maya Hayuk, and more. The exhibition closed September 29, but here are some opening night images.
Utilizing the backroom cache of venerated works by New Image Art's respected roster of misfits and genius', the New Image Pop-Up Gallery brings forth overlooked works lost amidst the days and repositions them within a fresh context alongside newer works from the current New Image roster of artists. As a long time supporter of the undercurrent contemporary art scene in Los Angeles and abroad, New Image Art has worked with many of today's most respected fringe savants including Date Farmers, Anthony Lister, Retna, Ed Templeton, Clare Rojas, Neckface, and more. The byproduct of these relationships has been the accumulation of an eclectic mix of art surplus and a recent evaluation of the backroom has turned up some pretty remarkable works! Admirers of the scene will be pleased to view work from this motley crue of individuals in this impactful salon style hanging of mixed media works including painting, printmaking, sculpture, and photography.”
