The Work of Carmel Seymour

April 02, 2014

'Carmel Seymour explores our relationship with the unknown creating curiosity with her delicate, detailed works on paper. In 2009, Seymour graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, Honors and received both the Rosemary Ricker Award and George Hicks Award.   Seymour’s mesmerizing images are open to interpretation and are an inviting antidote to the smug certainty of science and reason. She navigates complex, often polarizing issues with intelligence, grace and humor, seeking to recover a sense of wonder in a secular society, where the everyday subdues the sublime. Seymour’s works are beautifully executed with detailed figurative elements and abstract stains and blurs suspended on stark white backgrounds; the marked contrasts reinforcing the tension and wonder underlying the works.'
