Petra Börner's Classic Patterns

June 18, 2014

Petra Börner grew up in Sweden with an artist dream drawing inspiration from her great grandfather, a painter and photographer with entrepreneurial ideas. Being from a supportive family of doctors, she got her first commission illustrating medical journals through her surgeon mother.

She gained skills assisting illustrators and an urge to engage with art in new mediums brought her to London to study fashion at St Martins. Carrying on illustrating she started getting commissions by design-led publications like Elle and Vogue.

She worked at Seraph, an eye opening time bridging art, music and fashion. She realised that her real passion was in art, exhibitions followed including shows at The National Portrait Gallery and Claire de Rouen. Her work has generated interest by its artful, warm and bold character.

The award-winning illustrator has collaborated with various fashion houses, including Cacharel and Louis Vuitton. Her designs also feature through collaborations with retailers like Crate & Barrel, Heals, V&A and Penguin Books
