Louise Zhang's Neon Viscera

February 04, 2014

Louise Zhang's brilliantly psychedelic abstractions are mind-numbing meditations on the vagaries of color. Great fields of purples and pinks gradate into intestinal tracts of neon viscerae, the cosmos and the microscopic all coming to mind in a candy-sweet cacophony. She also makes incredibly vibrant amorphous sculptures using the same kind of drippy, neon aesthetic. Of the power of her medium, Zhang claims that "there is [enough] excess in color itself." Zhang lives and works in Sydney, Australia.
