Ben Blatt: Anatomy of a Landscape

May 31, 2012

'I’ve always loved drawing and painting... ever since I was too young to remember. As a kid I would catch bugs and draw them obsessively with a magnifying glass... It is a surprisingly organic process. There isn’t a clear vision in the beginning - more of a feeling of what I am going for…a mood. I think with my hands and eyes much more than my brain in the beginning, grabbing images, shapes and patterns and moving things around until there is a spark of life…mostly I look for something unexpected to work…a big bang moment when something I wouldn’t think of happens in front of me…then a vision crystallizes and I refine it until it has the ability to really satisfy my imagination.'
