Henry Lewis and Lango have put in some time creating a new body of work they'll open at 111 Minna Gallery in San Francisco this Friday, March 2, 2012. Neon Knights will be on view through March 31, so join the artists and SF's finest art hipsters at the opening from 5pm 'til "late."
"My artwork is made out of the necessity and urge to express myself outside of the tattooing world," Lango Oliveira says. "With each piece I plunge into a new, unexplored dimension where fantastic beasts fight through mythological scenarios representative of the human experience. After years of working together in the tattoo shop, sharing a studio, and spending long nights seeking inspiration from heavy metal, Henry Lewis and I now join forces to see what hybrid creatures we can create."
"As a tattooist," says Henry, "my painting work pokes fun at the social, cultural, and political issues in the tattoo community. I execute my ideas by deconstructing traditional Americana and “flash art,” giving new life to these antiquated images. For this body of work I am teaming up with a longtime brother in arms, Lango Olivera."
